Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day
At 0755, Carrier-based airplanes launched from a Japanese naval fleet attacked Pearl Harbor and other targets on the Hawaiian island of Oahu, as well as other US and British targets in the Pacific. The surprise attack lasted one hour and 15 minutes.
A total of 2,403 U.S. personnel died in the attack, including 68 civilians; another 1,178 were wounded; 159 U.S. aircraft were damaged; 169 were destroyed; 16 ships were damaged and three were destroyed.
Half of all the casualties were from the crew of the USS Arizona, a battleship that sank in Pearl Harbor with most its crew onboard.
The “Day That Will Live in Infamy” drew the US into World War II, officially the next day. With war already widespread throughout the globe, we began preparations for the likelihood of its entry into the war, including its historic build-up of the US Army Air Forces, “Air Corps” in June 1941.
Spotlight: Army Nurse Corps First Lt. Annie Fox was the head nurse at Hickam Field Hospital, which was near Pearl Harbor and converted to an evacuation hospital during the attack.
Lt. Fox assembled nurses and volunteers to help care for the wounded. She assisted doctors with surgical procedures while the battle outside continued. When the wounded began to arrive, she administered pain medicine and prepped patients for transfer to other hospitals.
For her service at Pearl Harbor, Lt. Fox became the first woman to be awarded a Purple Heart in 1942. In 1944 the commendation was replaced with a Bronze Star.
We are forever grateful for those who protect our Nation. The bravery of these Heroes will never be forgotten. ... See MoreSee Less

As we gather with our loved ones this Thanksgiving, let’s take a moment to express how grateful we are to be part of such a great nation. W4WH is inspired by all the generosity, teamwork, and unwavering service our volunteers and contributors provide to support our mission. Your tireless efforts have enabled us to achieve great things for our Heroes!
As we reflect on the blessings in our lives, let us not forget the sacrifices made by our fellow Fire, EMS, Police, Military members and their families, who have given so much to protect our freedom and way of life. We are grateful for the opportunity to come together and honor the values of our core mission that defines W4WH.
This Thanksgiving, we hope you each have the chance to relax and enjoy time with those who matter the most.
We wish you a happy and peaceful Thanksgiving!
Warm Regards,

What a first day of ticket sales and my writers cramp shows in how sloppy my writing is. There was 274 tickets sent out yesterday and a big thanks to Rob Lester for his advanced sales. The buy of the day was Killin Time Kustom Baits LLC who purchased a pile of tickets for his followers. If one of his tickets hits he is sending some of his followers so get on and follow this company for your own chance to go out. Very generous of both of you and thank you for support. Here is what 35 tickets look like in a text we send after purchase. Good luck to everyone who gets a ticket. ... See MoreSee Less

As we pause to reflect this Veterans Day, 11 November 2024, it is important to spend a few minutes on why we have this day.
President Wilson first referred to 11 November 1919 as Armistice Day in a message to the American people honoring the end of World War I the previous year. The tradition of celebrating that day continued for 20 years before it was made an official holiday in 1938.
After World War II, there was a call to expand Armistice Day to celebrate all veterans. The bill changing the name to Veterans Day was passed in 1954 and signed by President Eisenhower. Beyond the change in name, the day became a time to remember the service of all.
Veterans Day honors the service of all U.S. military veterans the fundamental relationship between being in the military and being of service. There was a time when it was common to say someone was “in the service” because they are one and the same.
Being a Veteran, a virtue within us all which elevates the human spirit, compels us to reach beyond our meager selves to attach our spirit to something bigger than we are.
Each of us who have worn the uniform took an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States. It meant we were willing to make personal sacrifices, to be dedicated to our duties, to be available to respond anytime and go anywhere and to lay down our lives, if necessary. Blood that was shed for our Freedom. #neverforgotten
This Veterans Day, let us all remember what serving means, and celebrate those who served so that we can all be free. ... See MoreSee Less
